Maybe those exec's bums aren't quite clean enough after the last time Key gave them a good clean with his tongue.

Jacqueline!
And for dessert?

A law change or two? Cause you know - it's always nice to know that Hollywood is dictating our employment laws down here. Thank goodness someone famous cares about us!!!

Yeah, those unions aye, so sharp and on the button, always concerned for the safety and well being of the workers!!

Just like at Pike River where........oh...wait!.....

The new 'left' are nothing but political opportunists parasitic on once great ideals.

Ummm, Shunda. I think you'll find the buck stops with the minister otherwise there's no point in having politicians... oh..wait!

The old right are nothing but etc. etc...

Shunda - Kevin Hague's doing the right thing at Pike River. Why are you so bitter about the unions?

robertguyton said...

Baramundi Poomundi - we met, earlier today, right , at the Fat Indian. I forgot to ask your name, but I recognise your accent.
Shunda's all bitter and twisted about the Labour (Liarbour) Party and believes them all to be hard-hearted unionists and feminazis.
Good luck btw, in getting the Minister Responsible for Mines, to take any responsibility for Pike River.

Hey Jax, thanks for that mental imagery NOT :)

Here was me thinking of the Huhu and cockroach variety, Survivor/politician style. I reckon Gerry could hold his own.

Hi Robert

I've noticed your comments and blogging over the past few months has become increasingly partisan, venal and downright nasty, what has happened to your once reasonably positive outlook on life ?

robertguyton said...

Dear Anonymous - thanks so much for your input. I'm sure that I'm still the happy-go-lucky guy I ever was and certainly feel bouyant and up-beat about all matters. Perhaps my flippancy comes across to you as 'nasty' but I don't feel that way toward anyone. If you can give me one example to address, I'd appreciate the opportunity to gain some insight.
Cheers

Sounds like anonymous has a tone argument for you, Robert.
There's plenty out there to be partisan and angry about, out there. The politicians who preach personal responsibility, but refuse to do so themselves, like mr key selling nz down the river to warner bros, need to be callled to account.
I'm angry over what National have done and I accept responsibility for my anger. I was less angry when the government was less of a bunch of thieves.

Shunda -- from what I read of the accident at Pike River the unions /workers via various channels tried there best to warn management that all was not well...BUT Shunda the Pike River management had there eyes firmly on the profit margin and ignored there concerns. Also this was an area where unemployment is historically a problem, in situation like this it is easy to be judgemental fling dirt at the workers not kicking up a fuss or going on strike etc to improve safety in the mine. BUT before you do judge you also need to walk in their shoes and understand their social environment.

AC - tone argument eh! I get that alot, whenever I venture into Blue territory, attacks on my 'attitude', but precious little engagement with any points I make. I'm used to it but what it does is encourages lampooning, which further inflames the situation. Because I like to 'paint a picture' with words, things become quite graphic. To me it's funny, to them (generally), offensive.
I recognise your anger as a good and necessary thing. Happy, happy, joy, joy sycophants are a threat to democracy and our sovereignty, imho.

Pauline - Shunda comes from the area and knows the social environment very well indeed. He's worked on site at Pike River, planting native trees to repatriate the mining roadsides. I'm unsure why he's criticising the unions. He's staunchly anti-Labour, I think because of their liberal social policies and is still infuriated by the 'smacking' issue. Maybe you two have that in common :-)

Shunda barunda said...

Pauline, with respect, you don't know what you are talking about.

The West Coast has had very low unemployment for a very long time, (not that that really has anything to do with anything).

I personally knew 2 of the dead miners and had just met a third, I knew 'of' about 4 others and know many who have worked for Pike in the past.

I also know that national ended mines check inspectors to the howls of the left, and I also know that for 10 long years the Labour party and the unions could have reintroduced them at any time.

Why didn't they? why didn't the unions lobby the Labour party? does anyone seriously accept that the unions were doing their job?

But oh, they have so much to say now about decisions waaaaaaaay back in the 90's.

It makes me sick.

They are shameless hypocrites, they are just as implicit in this as Pike management.

This whole Pike River debacle is due to a loss of values where it counts by all concerned.

robertguyton said...

Shunda - I have to admit to misunderstanding this issue, if what you say is true. The cessation of the inspectorate happened before Labour's 9-year term???
I thought it was something that happened this term, over the past 3 years.
If I'm wrong, then your question about Labours culpability is valid and pointed!

Shunda barunda said...

Robert, it happened when National was last in government!!

Labour and National are both as guilty as each other, this whole mess is an indicator of where we are at as a country.

We have had workers rights eroded in far more serious ways than the usual well worn 'battle fields' of min wage, youth rates etc etc
There is a much more sinister loss of values that has crept in under both the left and right.

Economic values are almost always placed ahead of human values in many aspects of our lives now.

This Pike river thing is just the beginning.
