Come to Christchurch if you want to see really crazy paving, there's miles of it.Literally. And not just footpaths. Still bewildered by the whole situation and how I ended up in it.
I was in the Garden City a couple of months ago AC and saw what you are referring to. I took photos of one footpath in Sydenham that amazed me - something was pushing up from below the asphalt but hadn't quite burst through. Uncanny. Driving on the roads had an unsettling effect on me - discombobulating and disturbing. Hope you regain your composure and whatever else might be adrift. I guess 'bewildered' means to be made 'wild' - not angry-wild, but 'gazelle-wild'.
They seem to use anything they can find Jeff - concrete, asphalt, crud from the floor of the council workshop, who knows? I'd like to see grassed swales, like they have in Waikaia. Sensible, easy maintenance, cheap, attractive and sustainable. No chance of that happening here in a hurry. Foolish councils.
