We have been here before Robert, what did the Green's percentage get up to before the last election
For some reason they don't get it on the important day
Of course it might be different this time, to be honest I hope so too

Thanks Ray. To be frank, I take no real notice of any polls. I do like to think though, that the thought of the Greens rising this quickly will have some of my 'lurking' readers fuming, or at least getting slightly anxious :-)

Well, as long as your coalition partner is slip sliding away and the natural friend of the
Greens (yep, the Mao-na party) is only poling 0.5%.....
Well done, a combined 30.5% for the left (this if Maori wants to join the left wing ranks)

See now Dutchie, that's where you are going wrong - you're believing the polls!
That will bring you nothing but disappointment. You probably believe national is really way out in front, don't you?
That's what I'm talking about! It'll end in tears for you.
If we were to take the polls as correct, you'd have to say that National is more popular when Key is out of the country, therefore, he's a liability for national and should stay overseas til after the election, if National are to have any chance at all.

Go Greens! It won't be easy sorting out an arrangement with Labour after the election, but we won't be getting 51%, so a left green, brown government it'll have to be.
Just caught up on the comments yesterday re Bill English. If the finance minister thinks there's nothing morally wrong with people paying NO tax on multi million dollar profits, then there is something horribly wrong with his morals. It ain't fair. As more of National's true colours are shown, more voters will turn away from them. Times are changing as people wake up. Kia kaha Greens.

I believe you're right Viv. The approaching election will be a battle between the Great Reveal and the Great Conceal.
I'm picking that what happened to Murdoch, will happen here too, and the manipulators will be exposed.

A good result for the Greens Robert. Maybe the jokes about Russel Norman looking like an Opposition Leader are turning into self-fulfilling prophesies.

"getting slightly anxious" and "there's nothing morally wrong with people paying NO tax on multi million dollar profits"

As a 'lurker' I see no cause for anxiety or a lack of morals. Double digits are but a temporary aberration.

robertguyton said...

Inv2 - I expect the next poll will show better/worse/the same results.
PMofNZ - there was me thinking everything about the Greens made you anxious and I'm not surprised I suppose, to learn that , like Bill, you favour an unfair tax system.

Armchair Critic said...

All tax systems are unfair, Robert. The main nuances, as I see them, relate to how unfair and to whom they are unfair. Even then, the scope for disagreement is enormous. however, a fair tax system is an oxymoron.

robertguyton said...

Equally unfair then AC. It's an important human need to feel that others are suffering as much as you are - lightens your own load somehow. The alternative is envy. Not a healthy state that!

Reduced internet access with my new employer leaves me with much less access to opinion that has not been processed, chewed and pre-digested by the media.
So it is my uninformed opinion that the sense (or lack thereof) underlying any changes to goverment policy can be measured by the leanings of the people that oppose the change, and the vehemence of their opposition. For example, anything that Phil O'Reilly hates is probably a good idea.
In the end it's a debate about something that either doesnt exist, or exists as scraps of metal or paper. Humans are the only species that value money, which tells you a lot about it. In repeated experiments, my animals have always chosen the hay, never the cash. Funnny, that.

robertguyton said...

The hay, rather than the cash!
A straw-poll would give the same result, perhaps.
Phil O'Reilley, the bell-whether?
Very agricultural, our present plight.

wether.
Good night!

You must believe them too.

Why else would you brag about them like a little kid in your post?

Or can the Greens not even trust what they say themself?

robertguyton said...

Brag Dutchie?
I'll bet you a bag of tulips (black) you can't show me where I've bragged and another if I can show you where I've said 'I take no real notice of the polls'.

dutchie down south said...

You might not have said it Robert but plastering it all over your blog shows to me a certain form of bragging....

robertguyton said...

You've misread my intent dutchie. It was pure provocation. I hoped to inflame those who hate to see the Greens rising in popularity. Do you think I'll net anyone?

dutchie down south said...

You might have...I think a lot of people don't mind to see the Greens rise in the polls when it come to certain environmental issues...

However what scares the living daylight out of most people is the Maoist idealogy what lingers among its ranks.

Some of the Greens are so indoctrinated by Maoisme that they easily put Pol Pot or Uncle Enver to shame ;)

Maoist ideology! Dutchie.
Don't be daft. That kind of statement and belief that makes Right-wing criticism of the Greens look so idiotic. I don't believe for a second thast you really think that. I've met you. You're a bright chap
:-)

I've pondeered your point about a tax systems being equally unfair. I'm not convinced, I think that the nature of a concept as vague as "fair" is means every tax system is unequally unfair. I'm contemplating the thought that economic arguments that rely on the concept of fairness to any great extent, are a refuge for scoundrels.

robertguyton said...

Economic arguments themselves are the refuge of scoundrels!
