How thick is the seam down there, and how far is it underground?What size hole are we talking about?
Technical question there Shunda. Someone'll be able to give you figures but in essence, THICK and within easy reach.There is considerable opposition building and it's nation-wide and at 'high levels'.Keep an eye on the media.

From 10-60m, can order the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment's Report online which has lots of good info on the sites etc. The entire Land in the South was core sampled in a 2.5km grid in the 1970s, like acupuncture yet a little more wanting!
big enough to move a fleet of trucks though NZs domestic climate policy...enough (one lignite urea plant) to be the second biggest point source of emissions in this country...Think Dig is upon us...
