Green Tories? Never!

Danyl at the Dim Post has his say on the decision being formulated at this weekend's Green Party AGM - to say yay or nay to the nasty Nats.
Danyl thinks, nah!

"The Green Party as it was three years ago – Locke, Bradford etc – could never go into coalition with National. I think the current Green Party could go into government with an hypothetical National Party if the policy wins were significant, but the chances of them going into government with this National Party and sitting at the Cabinet table with politicians like Joyce and Brownlee are basically zero. Per the Maori Party, it would split their party apart, their activists and core voters would abandon them and the Greens in New Zealand would be finished."

I'm with Danyl (in case you wondered.)

Or care.

Nasty Nats?

Please do tell Mr G.

"the Greens in New Zealand would be finished" - now there's something for the betterment of New Zealand.

Yes Robert, MMP clearly does not work in NZ.

PM - I do tell. Every day if I can.
Let's see...removing the right to vote from prisoners. There's some nastiness right there. I could go on.
Who, if not the Greens, would fight for the environment PM?
Mr English, Mr Brownlee and Mr Key? Mr Goff? Dr. Brash and Sir Roger Douglas? Mr Dunne?
Oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!
You need us.
(We are doing very well right now, you'll be surprised to learn)

Shunda - it can be gamed and abused, and can be improved, but it's the best system around, it's already in place and most people like it. Of course it's under attack from the Right wing and that should be enough to alert you to its value to ordinary people and to democracy :-)

Silly Greens. That's why Labour has taken advantage of you election after election. You've made yourselves irrelevant as you've told the public "We're just an appendage of Labour".

If the Greens were smart the remit would have talked about exploring options and expanding the good work already done with the Gnats.

Paranormal

Paranormal - you're reading the results wrongly. The Greens, risking blow-back from their Deep Green support base have said they're not ruling out a relationship with National, rotten as they may be, and are cagey about working with Labour, for the reasons you describe and other mis-matches in ideology and practical politicking.
I think they've been very astute.

And to back up what I've just said, look to the 'deals' Tthe Greens have brokered with national this term - home insulation, cycleways etc. Though you might have missed it, everyone else knows the Greens can work with National. Helping them gain access to the levers of power is however, another thing altogether.

No I hadn't missed it. Although some of it is certainly not 'good work', but again thats just my opinion.

Paranormal - in your opinion, which works weren't good?
