It's Global Wind Day, Keeping Stock informs us this morning.
It sure is. Here in Riverton, we are definitely part of the celebrations and have turned on the winds for it, in fact we've been practising for the past few days.
I'm due to fly to Stewart Island shortly. I see the little plane being tossed about by the gales, dipping, slewing, falling from the sky like a stone. The ferry's an option but Mrs G won't wear that, having no sea-legs at all. I'd be happy to stand out in the spray, watching the horizon heave but it'd be no fun to have my wife doing the same thing beside me.
I'll report back, all going well.
Why couldn't they have had Global Wind Day next week?

Hi Robert, hope someone will be using that wind to generate power down there on Rakiura. We had a great holiday there in January, but hated having to burn coal (!!) to heat the water- well the family had to wash sometime in 6 days. I was told the electricity is from diesel generators & is very expensive so the locals use coal fires for water heating. Not good for carbon emissions & it stinks.
I feel your pain, having a wife who claims she has a simialr problem

At least one house has a wind turbine, out towards Ackers point, mate of mine put it in amongst other goodies

Viv- as Ray points out, someone is, out Acker's Point way - it's an elegant model too. I'm not sure how the island has reacted to the trials that were done over they past year or so but I aim to find out soon.
The days of coal use down here are numbered. I'm plumping for wood, done well.
I'm going out to Acker's to look at a permaculture design I did 2 years ago and will nip out to the point for an update.
