Who could these two blokes be (and what do they have in common)?

I was going to say just what they have in common is just two old farts who have an interst in the challenges of the environment :) Ahh well even accross the political divide you can be friends. The differnce is the one on the right is a MP who does bugger all for his electorate, and just cruises along in a job with a good retirement income and with great perks and benifits. The one on the left is a councilor who works for his electorate and speaks out to the point where the one on the rights mates want to knobble him. :)
Ha! It wasn't til I looked back that I realised I'd get the 'old farts' treatment! Don't see myself as decrepit but there's no fooling the camera. As to the rest of your comment Pauline - you're a very perceptive woman :-) In truth, I think Eric is very good as Speaker - he knows his stuff and looks like he's enjoying himself (I've watched him on the telly!)
Anon - I'd better get a shake along then! We talked about lignite at some length. We disagreed on much, but not everything. Eric described the value of repatriation of the land following mining. To me, that's a very, very minor part of the issue. I'd like to hear about gas capture and containment. I hear nothing sensible said by the industry or anyone else. Til then, talk of lovely green pastures appearing after the mining machine has been through is a red herring. Today's paper carries an article about global warming that should be addressed by anyone promoting the removal of sequestered carbon from the ground and its release into the atmosphere, before they go on to big-note the lignite mining industry.
My Dad gave me plenty of advise, some good ,some useless (the stuff about surviving bomber crashes has yet to be proved usefull) but he did say never trust a bearded man He is ether lazy (major crime) or has something to hide So that gives me a good steer on these two old farts, though they look like mates which I gather is not likely

Raymond - your Dad was very wise but I have to ask, did he wear a beard?
These two are mates, unlikely though it may seem.
