Sunny Nelson
It was so very gloomy yesterday. Fog and mist clothed the hills of Nelson and it pelted with rain intermittently. Today is very different. The sun is out and the air is warm. Politics has been on my back burner over the past week but that hasn't stopped it happening! Nick Smith's disgraceful work around water has been revealed and if the people of New Zealand can't see that they are going to be paying directly for the private gain of farmers in the Canterbury region, I'll despair even more for them than I do now. From the point of view of a regional councillor, there seems to be nothing of value at all in Smith's cynical proposals that might help us manage water quality in Southland, though I've not had a chance to talk with the other 11 on the council yet - none of them have emailed me to laud the news from National so I'm talking their silence to be an appalled one. Other dribble from Key has filtered through to me via the car radio or the television in the camping ground lounge and it sounds and looks like more of the same bullshit from Key. The Nelsonians I've talked with are filled with disgust by what's being said by National, though I suppose the people I know up here don't tick Nick when they vote.
This post is just a marker I suppose, to remind anyone reading that I'm still on-line. I've a folder of photos I'm going to post as soon as I can wifi my laptop and get them up. I've been shooting all sorts of nostalgic material from my ol' home town, in particular from the park I spent so much time in as a young man - the changes I found there were very sobering - trees I remember as saplings are massive, mature and in one instance, at the end of its life. Pause for reflection and feelings of mortality.

Bugger off, we have enough bloody weirdos in Nelson we don't need you visiting too.
Too late well-wisher, I'm here. Can we meet for coffee :-)
