Mr Tumnus

He was named after 'autumn' I'm guessing and wouldn't look out of place here in my garden today. It's autumnal with a capital 'A', though I read that that's not the case elsewhere in the country.
Bellbirds are chiming away outside - there's plenty of dew for them to sip from inside the hollowed-out shells of some of our apples still hanging from the trees.
There are glossy blackbirds too, hopping along the verandah and taking furtive pecks at some of the apples that are arranged along the deck, waiting to come inside. Autumn blackbirds are so much better-looking than the spring versions, many of which look rusty and half-pie. There are tui out there as well. They always look fine and dandy.
The garden is wet, but in a 'settled gently during the night' way, not 'fell from the sky in a torrent', and I'll be out there soon, planting nuts of all sorts, gleaned from the ground in orchards 'up north'. I've firewood to cut today and that's a job I'm enjoying - spreading the ash from the fire as well, out on the new field that seems to lack potash, but not for long. The mix of vetch, lupin, Swiss chard and phacelia that's growing there is looking sturdier already.
Oh, and it's HANmer, not HAMner :-)

If I had written the original post I would have posted under 'anonymous' as well to avoid people linking me to the quality (or lack thereof) of my posts

Bio - I met Anonymous once, but didn't recognise him. His voice was a wheedle and his argument transparent. I can see why his parents gave him the name they did.
