Whimsy from the estuary. It looks like a big cigar!
Kinda. And this shot of a duck hunters maimai - how'd you like that stuck in the middle of your vista!

The observations of an observant Southlander

At least it doesn't have Duckywood in big letters on the side.
Or 'Warnerville'.
Or 'Greymouth'
"it's not looking good, you have a bad case of grey mouth"
Lucky you don't live at Blackball Shunda.
Lucky (for hunters) that cigarette lighters are duck-proof, as well as child-proof.
Tinder boxes!
The maimai in our parts are clad with voltile-oil-laden manuka but they almost never go up in flames, more's the pity. It'd make for a spectacular night-time display and the reflections on the estuary would be awesome!
Well I know what we can do next time I am down that way!
Bow + arrow + flames = fun fun FUN!!!
Make sure you take the camera too!
Now now!
Duck hunting is a much-loved sport in these 'ere parts. Don't want to go inflaming the passions of likkered-up men with guns!
The hunters have had a very poor season this time around - not sure why, but there's been precious little popping and banging going on out there on the sand-flats. In the past, it's been a war-zone come May 1st.
The lurid quacking alone is worth it though.
