Flooding
The road to and from Gore was blocked by flooding, though we were able to pass with the assistance of the roading blokes with their flouro vests and sparkly wands.

Someone needs to be checking their culvert O&M plans, or their 10 year capital works plan. Roads shouldn't flood like this - had it rained much?
Some. I blame the removal of forest cover and wetlands all along the river systems of Southland. Bit late for that to be of any value though, so I guess it's down to culverts and drain clearing.
Short term solution - make sure your culverts are clear, and big enough.
Long term solution - correct the imbalances in the hydrology.
Must go and see what ES's Regional Plan says - is it available on line?
The culverts of Southland, the wooden ones anyway, are collapsing and there is a pressing need to repair/renew them. Expensive need.
