Very crisp, cox's orangy style flavour. Found growing in public on a hilltop in Dunedin. I'm inclined to call it "Hilltop Russet". Will be returning for scion that's for sure!
Nick - I'll get The Indentifyer to take a look tomorrow morning. She's sure to have an idea. Gotta say, 'Hilltop Russet' has got a very nice ring to it. I'm told those wildings are shaping up nicely around the city.
You recently offered me a basket of Peasegood Nonsuch if I could rise to a certain challenge...honestly thought you were being philosophically erudite, with literary cleverness..how dumb do I feel now knowing it's a type of apple!! Damn!!
The brown under the russet is more red than in that photo, maybe it's my screen, though I shall send an original or three south with The Musician for palate recognition.
Guess I'll have to stick to my Granny Smiths purchased from Countdown! Apples are one of the few things Terry doesn't grow...I guess any left-overs could be catapulted? Your poor neighbours :)
Hey Nick, where did you find that one? It looks a bit like the fruit from the tree tucked in behind the wee sub station at the intersection of Alva and Stafford streets. I can't get to them, so they're all yours!
