While I was in Te Anau for the pruning of the old, gnarled plum tree (and a chance meeting with Jack Murrell!) I bought a copy of Saturday's Otago Daily Times. It was filled with stories of the Christchurch earthquake, as you would expect. There were however, other articles and snippets in no way connected to the calamity. The one I've chosen to reproduce here is quirky and of no great importance, but fun. They weren't brave enough to give it the title I did, but I'll bet they were tempted!
Ice-cream treat
London: A specialist ice-cream parlour plans to serve breast milk ice-cream and says people should think of it as an organic, free-range treat.
The breast milk concoction, called the Baby Gaga, will be available from today at the icecreamists restaurant in Covent garden, in London.
Icecreamists founder Matt O'Connor was confident his take on the "miracle of motherhood" and priced at a hefty 14 pound ($NZ 30) a serving would be popular with the paying public. The milk was provided by mothers who answered an advertisement on online mothers' forum Mumsnet. - Reuters

Ha!
(alternative title - Milk from your ilk).
Shunda - remind Ms B that breast is best!
I'm waiting for a response from La Leche.
Or Fonterra.
I hope the lactating contributors were paid handsomely...imagine the sound of hundreds of breast-pumps simultaneously whirring into action around London!
Did I hallucinate your post on Ms Collins?
I hear its slightly sour compared to normal milk?
Bioneer!
Have you forgotten already???
Suz - I posted on Judith Collins' statement that she hoped the looters would be jailed 'with a cellmate' and expressed my astonishment that a minister of the Crown would say such things (implying that rape would be a fair additional punishment for their crimes) but having posted that, was repelled by the thought of the whole thing and pulled it. I didn't want to be reminded of Collins' sociopathic comment each time I looked at my own blog!
Fair enough Robert.
Bioneer: Far from sour, it is sickly sweet! My son was born with a hiatus hernia (as well as 2 inguinal hernias that required surgery at 12 weeks) and as a result suffered from chronic reflux and constant vomitting, and as a result adamantly refused any food from either breast or bottle. Unfortunately, he needed to be hospitalised at one point for dehydration. Nightmare times for an anal mother such as myself who had read every book etc, and was planning to do it all as nature intended. Having purchased a breast pump, with litres of it going down the drain, I can attest that it is more sugary than your average soft drink. And as an aside, because his hiatus hernia didn't show up on his first test, we had psychologists from the hospital suggesting that our 3-month old suffered from anorexia!!!
