Latest poll shows National slumping

It's causing a flurry of double-speak and Neroic denying across the rightwing blogosphere but those who can look at the polls in a balanced way are enjoying the most recent political poll that has Key's mob on the slide and, to my delight, the Greens entering new popularity territory.
"The polls are wrong!" clamour the supporters of the Right-wing Government of National, Act, the Maori Party and the Bouffant party.
Indeed.

RG,

Come on, you seriously aren't taking this poll seriously are you?

take a look here at the break down of how the people voted in the last election compared to how they are going to this year. According to that over 11% of those that said they would vote for ACT this time claim to have voted for Progressives last time. Serious poll? I doubt it.

When you look at respected polls they have a trak record of predicting more accuratley how elections turn out.

This "poll" by horizon is out of line with all of these.

Who - you're frightened by what you see on the horizon.
You are being taken in by Farrar's spin. It's his job to make you believe that National is unbeatable. He's a pollster and knows just what to say to push your buttons.

RG, I don't think that National are unbeatable.

But I certainly don't trust polls so far from other respected polls.

If you look at the breakdown of their numbers they make for interesting reading. Supposedly over 11% who voted progressive last time are now voting ACT.

Also, if you work out what 40.4% of the total people who answered National in this rogue poll, then take the "32.7%" of that number who said that last time they voted ACT and you find that they make up 13% of the sample size.

But did ACT get 13% of the party vote at the 2008 election? I think not.

Rogue poll.

Rogue perhaps who, but it's caused the rightosphere to tear their panties to shreds!
What will happen when a supportive poll comes out?
Perhaps there will be effigies of Farrar burned in the streets!
I look forward to that merry day
:-)

Kia ora Robert,
GST rises, tax cuts for the wealthy, bailouts for the rich. Almost all the people I work with are struggling far more now than a few years back to make ends meet, and put food on the table each week. And then we are told we need to save more, or a big deal made of some guy on the sickness benefit for 20 years being booted off as an example of the low life bludgers needing to be brought into line, when at the same time the big banks here have ripped off the taxpayers to the tune of several billion dollars. I don't think the gnats are anyway, shape or form shoo ins. What will really matter is how many people actually get out and vote.
Cheers,
Robb

Cheers for that sobering, feet on the ground comment Robb. That's the kind of thing star-struck National Party supporters like who, need to hear.
Whether it penetrates the 'blue ring of confidence' that surrounds such cheerleaders is another matter.
Don't forget to vote (it's election year after all :-)

true RG.

But we also have all the lefties claiming how right the poll is etc etc because it has given them hope - totally misplaced of course :-)

I guess we will have to see what happens aye?

I know when they released a rogue poll by the same firm in November, no polls came out supporting it, in fact Nats went up further in the polls. :-)

Look forward to debating matters with you through out this year. :-)

Poetic license there Shane and all for your entertainment.
How are the Libertarians faring?
All power to them :-)

What was you're prediction on the Yes vote?

robertguyton said...

My prediction anonymous?
I didn't make one but it turns out that changes to the child discipline habits of New Zealanders have gone smoothly, in my opinion, and haven't resulted in lawlessness. I hope the effects of the changes will improve our NZ society. I believe the have already.

I remember someone saying the vote would be quite close.

Libertarians? We are both good.
Third biggest US party, and the drive behind the tea parties, though...

robertguyton said...

Hmmmm... 'T' party is in the cross-hairs at the moment Shane.
Palin fan are you?
Is that egg or something worse she has on her face?

Shane Pleasance said...

Palin is ridiculous (but better looking than most).
The t parties have been hi-jacked by the republicans. Republicans are not libertarians.
In fact, the only true constitutional republican in the US is Senator Ron Paul, dyed in the wool Libertarian.

Please don't tell me the concept of Liberty is beyond you, Robert?

Shane, you really need to read "The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Cline http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shock_Doctrine
This describes in academic, but easily read detail, the reality behind Libertarian policies and how easy greed and corruption dominate when regulation and controls are removed. This is a must read book if you are interested in contemporary politics whether you agree with the contents or not.

robertguyton said...

I won't tell you Shane (you've worked it out for yourself) :-)
Nah!
I'm for it but your definition and boundaries are different, I suspect, from mine.
I would enjoy and probably benefit from an outline of where you draw the line Shane. Care to send in a precis (rather than direct me to the Libertarian website)?
I'd publish it as a post for all to enjoy/dissect/applaud/demolish.

bsprout - your comment is lodged somewhere temporarily so I've cut'n'pasted it from my email.
It's great to have you back in the country!

Robert, Kleins work does not reflect the result of true Liberty, but rather 'crony capitalism'. That is, the state and big business actually connected.

The implications that controls or guidelines would not exist in a genuinely free nation is false.
That which is required, ought to develop.
Force & compulsion would be outlawed.

Voluntary association and adherence offers the opportunity to add real value to ones own lawfully owned property - or otherwise.
A good place to start in the exploration of the concept of personal freedom and responsibility is here:
