Big rig - Big problem

Overweight trucks on our roads - who should pay for the damage?
Frana Cardno says,
 'Not the rate payer!'
David Adamson, Southland District council chief executive says,
'We have a whole lot of issues regarding if our bridges can withstand the weight'.
Who is using the over-sized trucks, and to carry what?
Fonterra.
Coal.
That's what I say.

perhaps Frana should ask for some of the RUC monies that those big rigs pay. The heavier the truck the higher the RUC charges. All of this money goes straight to the general funds and none of it earmarked for road repair. The trucks are paying their fair share.
How was the milk in your coffee this morning, by the way......

Mine comes direct from the cockey, Southernright, and it was good (organic and non-homogenized).
Good suggestion re redirecting charges collected by the Government. Frana should indeed ask (and I suspect she has ad nauseum) for the monies collected from the oversized trucks operating here to go specifically toward the extra damage they will doubtless cause, or changes needed to the bridging, as Adamson suggests is likely.
