Now that was fun!
Today, I was invited, along with mayoral hopeful Suzanne Prentice, to kick off the Cargill Home 'potato in a bucket' competition. My role was to judge the art-work on the buckets, announce the rules of engagement and hand out the spuds. Suzanne was to cut the ribbon.
I had the best job by far.
Some of the decorations were fabulous. I chose Merv's 'spooky face' design, for its incongruity and humour. His competition was a bevy of pretty floral works by the women of the home and I felt he needed my support. Gordon's 'whiskey bottle' emblem was almost as appealing, but I had to make a choice.
In loudly declaring the requirements of the competition I said there was to be no bandicooting of other's spuds, no cursing the tubers of the other residents and no kicking of buckets! It was tempting to ad lib but the good men and women of the home did plenty of that! They were a riot!
I was most impressed by the whole event and will be back when harvest time comes and I'm looking foward to it very much.
