Ogon goes country wide

New Zealand Gardener magazine has run an article on Riverton's driftwood art and used this fine photo of our now famous friend in his pre-felled state.
The article describes the well known and oft-asked-for ungulate too as:

"a spread-antlered moose with driftwood ribs, hooves, a great moosey head and ...well everything else a moose has, all fashioned from bleached branches and logs washed around the edges of the estuary."

That's some good writing in my opinion :-)

Ha!
You're quick off the mark Shunda.
Quiet day at the office?
I'm writing for the Coastline magazine this afternoon as well as keeping an eye on the blogs, as you seem to be doing.

It's been a quiet couple of weeks in the office!
My work vehicle has been at the painters for 3 weeks and the weather has been absolutely shocking for outside work (with no end in sight!)
I have built some nice new steps to my front door though (out of horrible treated pine) and I am currently drawing up those landfill plans I mentioned some time ago.
Looking forward to some sunshine!

Good luck with the plans and your tan.
Any thoughts about the kelp issue Shunda?
It's got me feeling very anxious.

Well, do I think people using kelp is wrong? no it probably isn't.
But we all know that this is not about us using a bit of kelp, it is about a few people harvesting a sh!tload of kelp and getting rich off it.
I am sure there is the possibility of a sustainable harvest of kelp, but I am just as sure those interested don't want to stick to it.
I share you anxiety.

Join my 'Help the kelp' action team then Shunda!
We are going to don our kelp-like wet-suits, drift unseen amongst the kelp beds the haul the @#$%^& in when they come harvesting!

Ha ha! I've got a new wetsuit too, could stick sea lettuce all over it!
Seems like a good excuse to get back in the ocean, we could deal to some "kelp cutters" and catch a few barrels on the way back in.
Surfs up dude!
