Loooong line up

There were over 30 freshly scrubbed, hopeful faces looking out over the sea of grey heads at yesterday's Grey Power meeting - faces belonging to candidates for every council going in Southland. Most of us were be-suited, but not all. Roger Ngahoro wore a thick, warm jersey suited to the conditions outside of the hotel and looked relaxed and Maori, with the knitted-in koru designs proclaiming his heritage. Saskia talked about hers - Dutch and Irish, said the ex-Rose of Tralee. Some of the challengers tried to read Shadbolt his, but he was unmoved, as were most of the audience, by what was essentially a pedestrian effort from the line up of candidates. I did my best to get a rise out of the luminaries seated there and didn't do too badly. Made Stuart Collie stir.
There is coverage of the 'event' on Cue TV tonight at 5:30 pm and again at 9:00 pm.
If you need something to lull you into a torpor...
btw - great to see you there Dave!

talking about her heritage is exactly why she shouldn't get a vote. what is it with people and a soapbox?

I'd hoped for humour and provocation at least but we got a lot of lame CVing instead.
Jim Fish was funny though.

Pauline - I wondered where you were.
Carl didn't get an invite either.
Neil Wyeth and Rollie Curie were there with bells on.
I guess it's who you know (or how gold your card is, how bald your pate etc...).
