Feds advise voters

Odd, it seems to me, that the Federated Farmers has been given/have taken the prime Opinion spot in the Southland Times to give advice to Southland voters regarding the up-coming elections.
What a convenient platform for them, through Rod Pemberton, Federated Farmers Southland president, to espouse their farmer-friendly views!
Mr Pemberton devotes some of his article to praising the Government for their dismissal of Ecan and warns that other regional councils should consider that action carefully. He also warns councils that rural ratepayers money is not 'an endless supply of money to fund councils dreams'.
He says:
" Councillors need to remember that they are there to represent their constituents through leading efficient organisations that focus on deliverables rather than appearence, a council that is focused on fact, not emotion."

He tidies up his stern warning to voters and candidates alike by saying,
"It's so important that we ensure Southland is represented by the right people ..."
I did laugh.

They are an interesting bunch these feds.
On the Coast the president indicated that farmers around Lake Brunner should be given compensation if they are not allowed to use the lake as a giant communal effluent pond.
"it'll lower farm values if we have to obey these laws" they said.
After all it is only the largest most recreational lake in Westland, and a bit of sh!t never hurt anyone, right?

They'll probably get the compensation they seek Shunda - the Government loves to pay out to their voting base, especially the farmers. It's money well spent for them.

Back bone of the b l a r d e e nation!!

I am thinking of parodying WestCoast issues on You tube with sock puppets and sarcasm!
What do you think?
I have already half made the mayor sock puppet.

Mayoral puppet! yes!
Will he say, "Darn!" alot?
Will he constantly 'shoo' his constituents?
Can't wait to see your work Shunda!

I think the Fed Group need a woman like the one you've depicted in your article Robert. Imagine her going into a board meeting to sort the 'boys' out!! It's my perception that farmers have come to learn about the land - you have to wonder where they're getting their tuition from aye!!

From each other Poppy and shudder from the fertilizer salesmen etc.
The font of most of their knowledge would be the lecturers second shudder at their Agricultural Colleges and the ideas those seem to profess don't strike me as being especially progressive.
Perhaps you might like to take up the ruler and rap some knuckles.

I may rap the wrong bits! I have faith in humanity though that eventually we'll become an 'intelligent species' and be willing to see the error of our ways and look to 'the perfection of nature' for our abundant solutions - it's that simple - no rocket science required!!

I hope there will still be some left for us to look to Poppy!
I'll fight to preserve as much as I can, though I notice it's not to bad a reclaiming lost ground, given the chance.
