Big Night Out - Riverton

The hall was packed ...with candidates, for the 'meet 'em' evening and it was surprising who was there.
Frana swept in all confident and mayoral and circled the room getting the measure of her challenger from the North, Roderick Young, in his black suit and with his Blackberry. It might have been an iphone or something smarter, but he refered to it constantly, gathering background info no doubt. He seemed a clean fighter and well schooled. Far more substance than I had expected. Answered every question confidently. The audience of mainly grey-haired townfathersandmothers didn't warm to him straight away, as is their wont.
The Health Board women spoke very well, as they do. They have passion for their work. Two came from Queenstown for the address. That's what I'm talking about.
The other Environment Southland candidates were grey on grey. Two repeated the speech they gave to Grey Power. One refused to answer a question straight because of what he'd read from Stuart Collie in the morning paper a position that he endorsed!
The night wore on.
Our local Community Board candidates were familiar and pleasing faces.
Some of them will succeed.
Good luck to us all.

"I cannot have an opinion because Comrade Kim-Jong Collie said it's not allowed"?????

Ha!
I answered in full!
I had something to say too, to the candidate who kept mum, but he was a Collie acolyte.
Paddy - it was farcical but there was more when it came to the Enviro candidates answering the simplest of questions.
I despaired.
Seems all that's needed is skills in 'governence'.

Don't know if its a complement of complaint, I've been called worse than a grey-haired townfathersandmothers - I would have thought the word 'grand' in front would have described us better.

I see some of your election holdingd in South Invercargill without your consent address on them, naughty boy.......
