Still determined

This is great news. In our recent lost battle to halt modern dairy farming in Curio Bay we found ES staff most helpful but thwarted by laws that encourage monoculture in the name of progress/jobs. We will happily give assistance to your campaign in our local area. You will need it!!

Kia ora Robert,
Best of wishes to you. Our local Federated Farmers pulled out of a largely symbolic, but important, recognition by groups who use, and pollute, the Manawatu river, as they did not agree with the wording or the fact the river is even as bad as stated! Talk about heads in the sand. We need voices like yours out there.
Kia kaha,
Robb

Yeah, that's a dirty business for the Feds in the Manawatu. I've been following the story at Frogblog

http://blog.greens.org.nz/2010/08/10/feds-play-games-over-manawatu-clean-up/

It's not only 'heads in the sand', I believe but wilful obfuscation and avoidance of reality because it's going to cost them. What's new.
That whole 'challenge the language' is par for the course for the Federation.
We've taken a leaf out of their book down here, calling for a change of title for our Southland rivers at a time when people are wary of having polluted rivers, we now call them drains, the Matuara Drain, the Aparima Drain, etc. Problem solved. No polluted rivers in Southland.

Thanks Liz!
There's nothing worse than being thwarted and I'm intending not to be. I followed your battle with the dairy development at Curio Bay, aiming as it was for land that 'flows' out into the dolphin and surfer habitat, with some dismay. It is 'interesting' isn't it, to watch industry lever the RMA and local regulations, one aspect at a time, in order to secure the major win, when clearly the final solution should not be reached. There are land types that should not be 'dairyied' regardless of the clever manipulations that for the moment, allow that to happen. The MacKenzie basin is subject to similar maqchinations right now - a claim for water here, a 'reasonable proposal' for building a shelter there - it's only a small amount of effluent your Honour!
Thanks for your offer of help in and around Curio Bay. I'm standing for tthe Invercargill/Rakiura ward and wish that it did extend all the way out to your place!
Hope you enjoyed last night's talk. It was fun to do and great to meet you all.

Great to hear you are standing Robert. I think that the Green movement has made a mistake to ignore local politics as much as it does, and I look forward to seeing what you can accomplish in there. JaH bless

Thanks Nandor. If your avatar is anything to go by, you've very much relaxed since your time in the House.
I enjoyed your latest post very much.
