Pat of the day

That's what I call a real cow pat - not those sloppy dribbles that pass for manure on modern urea fed dairy farms.

Are you talking crap again Robert?

Can you see the mouth and nose in the pat Shunda? It's almost speaking to me, saying,
"Give those cows some real herbage to chew on, something with some substance to it, some plantain, some chickory, yarrow and cocksfoot and let them be grown naturally with sun and rain and real soil. Don't force some over-bred ryegrass with urea and electric fence your stock away from the plants they crave. They'll just end up with the squirts!"
Did you see that Shunda?
We drove past one of the giant 'cow-shit ponds' that litter the Southland plains now and a drain that ran beside it and beside the road was stinking rank foul

I did see the face Robert!!
And I hate rye grass! or more correctly 6AB34577-a or whatever those mega buck breeding programs call it!!
You should see the crap around here Robert, you guys have always had some dairy, but here it has practically happened overnight. My opinion on these farms has changed dramatically over the past couple of years. The regional council did finally prosecute one farm (and very heavily, I think about 100 grand!) so hopefully that will scare some of em.

There have been a lot of complaints from farmers about the quality of the latest 'breeds'. Seems they are feeble, don't last long and are therefore a bad investment. Too clever by far, those modern varieties, mated as they are to a product that's made from the gas from oil fields.
I remember a story from the Hakataramea which suffered a crippling drought that left only one farm with it's pastures intact (most blew away) and that was one that hadn't moved to the new cultivars but had kept the cocksfoots and other robust grasses.
Go commonsense!
