Landmark #1 - The Rotunda

Are you allowed to ride a bicycle through Queens' Park?
I kinda scooted, rode at a snail's pace and walked beside my bike, depending on the proximity of gardeners and the signs that warned of spy cameras!

Robert, it is perfectly acceptable to ride a bike through Queens Park and you won't be attacked by lurking gardeners. If you ride through during commuter rush times you will probably have an appreciative audience too.

Thanks for that bsprout - I walked through the park again today and there were a lot of very happy families feeding equally happy ducks there. I'd been planting an apple tree and pruning a cherry tree for an elderly woman in Melbourne Street. It was a very balmy evening in Invercargill.

Hi Robert...been following your blog for a little while and would like to wish you luck in the up-coming elections.
I am currently pruning apple trees (biodynamic orchard) and heard Adam's piece on National radio last week - pretty cool.
We have a small property in Hawkes Bay and are looking to buy some heritage variety apples....do you send orders, have any suggestions as to which varieties we should start with.

Hi Jimmy - thanks for your support and also for following the blog and listening to Nat rad! Sounds like you've got it all covered!
The Biodynamic orchard sounds interesting - probably a bit like ours. Our heritage trees are all grafted with scions from heritage Southland trees and probably do well anywhere but a source closer to home would probably be better. It's awkward for us to courier from the Deep South and all of our sales have been pick-ups. I don't mean to sound discouraging though!
I could send scions if you know how to graft - it's easy!
I'm glad you caught Adam's piece on the radio - Farmageddon was something special and there's more to come. Presently Adam is designing/building a curiously efficient direct seeding machine taht he'll probably want to make available to others once the prototype has sown a field.
I spent the afternoon pruning, though the moon is wrong. If you cut a kiwifruit vine now you'll see some water flow!
Have you looked at the South Coast Environment Society's website for suggestions on apple varieties etc?
It's a great website.

(look for Open Orchard)
Cheers jimmy, enjoy the orchard work and good luck with your own.

You're the man for the role Robert - I know you have so much to offer from all your life experiences - you just don't talk about it - you are it - that makes the difference. Ride on!!!

Thanks Poppy!
You've reminded me of something that I've seen quite a bit of as I cycled around, especially out Otatara way, men astride ride-on mowers!
What's that about!
It'd look so much more rustic and romantic if they were mowing with a scythe and they wouldn't have to do it each weekend!
Modern man!
