Fonterra twisting and turning

Fonterra want to lay a track across State Highway 1 at Edendale, for their own use.
To redirect traffic, that's you and I, a new road will be built behind the Edendale factory.
This new road will be paid for by ... wait for it... you and I!
Twisty and turny Fonterra!
Public money, private gain.

"Southland District Council resource management planner Roy Hammond said the final cost of the project was not known yet because several land purchases would be required to relocate the highway."

The most hilarious statement though, comes from Dan Hutchison, intrepid reporter who says,

"Southlanders will not have to go to Birmingham for a serving of spagetti junction - a quick trip to Edendale will be a real treat for highway design enthusiasts."

The rest of the article is not funny at all.

Wonder what it'll cost us?

See here and here for background reading.

Fonterra should pay, if your facts are OK, and I assume they are

My belief too Adam. I've added a couple of links to my post but can't locate the Southland Times article from today's edition. Odd.

This will become an increasingly important issue for Kiwi'.
The floods and fires(biblical) in the Northern Hemisphere will put a lot of attention on food producers such as New Zealand.
I am not happy with the idea of Fonterra exploiting anyone - most especially Kiwi's - this Company MUST treat their host Country differently - else we'll suffer from a big lie - will be truly ripped off and away from our natural heritage; - good on you Robbie keep up the good work - when you are PM, I'll rest easy!

Hey Mark!
Fonterra and Solid Energy have Southland covered but a mix of coal and milk's an unpalatable thing.
There will be indigestion.

The roads should be privately owned.

Would iwi be able to stipulate particular behaviours on their stretches Shane?
Who would decide on speed limits?
Would owners be liable for accidents on their section?
Could you sell your stretch and would you sell yours to foreigners not living here?

Fonterra think the world revolves around them you want to try living in the town with the noise the smell All the complaing does not stop thier arragant ways as long as the money flows in they don't care about the inviroument or the people of the town even the council dont give a damn when you ring and complain to them Money talks always has & always will.
Now that they have bought all up on the main Highway South of the town they can do what ever they want & as for resource consents if you got the bucks you can have what ever you please submission are just a formality.
