The unfolding catastrophe of the world's worst
oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico should be warning
enough to anyone thinking of drilling in deep
water but our Government is going ahead anyway.
Their invitation to the giant Brazillian oil company,
with major accidents in it's history, to drill off
the east coast of New Zealand is reckless
enough but plans to drill for oil in the deep and
difficult waters of our Southern Basin are
foolhardy in the extreme.

It's a recipe for disaster not only on the East Coast but anywhere there are rough seas. The Deep South Basin is an ecological disaster waiting to happen.
Good letter. Hope you get some response, especially from iwi who bird on the muttonbird islands. They are in the way of trouble if it happens.
