It's frosty, Jack!

An early morning start for me and riding my bicycle down to the town was a chilling affair!
The frost was heavy on the ground but the road, thankfully, was clear as I swung down the hill and across the bridge. My face felt the worst of the cold but I thawed quickly once I'd got the fire blazing in the shop. I say to gardeners who visit that we aren't subject to many frosts here, not in the way the good folk of Nightcaps or Ohai are at least, but there are days like this when I remember that we are not entirely protected by the relative warmth of the sea.
I did notice, as I sped alongside of the estuary, that the delta of sand that forms at low tide just west of the bridge, is growing. The removal of the railway bridge was always expected to produce some changes in the actions and passage of the water and the expanding sand banks seem to bear that prediction out. There'll be a problem for us if it continues to build. For now though, and especially on a clear cold morning like this one, it looks very picturesque.
*Update - a small customer who travelled down on her tricycle just now said that it was cold because 'Jack in the Frost' had been to Riverton :-)
