China took a hammering on the world stage following the extinction of their Yangtze River dolphin earlier this year. New Zealand will be similarly criticised if we lose our tiny Hector and Maui dolphins. Our tourism and farming industries, with their 'pure and clean' marketing tag, will be hardest hit.

hey lay off those fishermen, they cant be expected to check their nets that are tens of kilometers long... (did you read that in the paper?)
Those fishermen sure are quick to jump to their own defence! Even though there is no mention of them in your letter! Nervous fishers. Have you seen the 'flayed hector's dolphin' image from the WestCoast? Some bright spark filleted a dolphin and left it to wash up on the beach. If no bycatch of Hector's or Maui's are reported, does that mean there is none? Hmmm.
