Last night's forum in Invercargill showed that there are lot of women interested enough in local body politics to stand up and voice their opinions. I was interested to hear the Environment Southland candidates highlight water quality as the key issue. This ties in with the call by Fish and Game Southland for a forum on the 20th of this month to hear the views of all of the Invercargill/Rakiura candidates on freshwater. If you are interested to hear what each of the candidates has to say, come along to the Workingmen's Club at 7:30 pm. I'm looking foward to the chance to 'make a splash' with the freshwater topic, that's for sure!

The meeting at the Salvation Army citidel was a good indication to me that not only are there lots of women speaking up, but that there are many, many women showing an interest in voting. I don't know how true this is of the male population - it would be very interesting to see figures to show the comparison. The questions from the women in the audience showed the depth of interest also.
Some of those women are clearly banging a drum on a personal issue, I wonder if the men are the same? There will be less colour in the outfits at the men-dominated meeting I'll bet. Pania was nervous, I liked her though, she is working in that field anyway. The young woman who lost the baby, I hope she gets in also. She was well researched.
Eirwen Tullet's acidic comments in the Southland Express must have been aimed at some of these women - very unfairly too, I must say. Criticising a person for expressing their frustration over council actions is a not so subtle way of closing down free speech. Ms Tullett should know better.
Hi Robert, thankyou for your positive affirmation in Riverton the other night, public speaking is something I'm only learning!
Thankyou to the lady who posted a comment about me, I have poured more energy into this and more research than anything else I've done except raise my son! Check out this mornings paper, proof of what I have been speaking about re. the senior doctors frustration and poor working conditions. This MUST stop.
Thanks again
Rachael Goldsmith
Good luck Rachael, with the voting forms out, all we can do is sit back with our fingers crossed and wait!
