How committed are Fonterra to dairying in Southland? Will they build a rail network to move milk the way they have in the Wairarapa, or will the number of tankers on our roads grow and grow as dairying increases? Read more on Fonterra’s transport initiatives here.

Have you asked Fonterra about their plans down here? If they are wanting to endear themselves to those Southlanders who aren't dairy farmers, a rail system would go a long way. The tankers are already bad enough, if you live out of town it is guarenteed you will be slowed down by them, or monstered by them if you are not a fast driver.
I wonder who the silly fool was who thought of the idea of tearing up the rail tracks in the first place. Bring back rail I say. We would save the roads from having to be repaired so often and you wouldnt have your house shake as those massive tankers roll past. Fonterra could help out I feel!Wealthy enough to pay out large dividends therefore wealthy enough to lay train tracks.A boost to tourism at the same time.
The coal companies are planning to abandon the line out here soon. Fonterra could take it on and use it. It is already there and noone else is putting their dibs in for it!
Ohai way- perhaps you should suggest to fontera that they sell their redundant tankers to solid energy to cart coal from their upcoming opencast mine haha
