Close call

I accidentally drowned my camera.
It would have spelled the end of blogging for me. I like images. Words are fun, but who really cares what I think?
Without my camera and the ordinary-world images I capture with it, this blog would be all but empty of interest, so filling the lens barrel with water seemed a seriously bad move. The pictures that resulted were like this:

Not very promising, I thought, as I smote my brow.
Then I remembered reading that if you quickly bury a drowned electronic device in rice, it can save the day. I did that. It did nothing. A suggestion was made that I apply the business end of a switched-on vacumn cleaner to the lens. Much of the fog lifted, but not all. Today, I pointed the camera at the sun (don't ever look directly into the sun!!) and now the images are of this quality.

 Is that good enough?
Can't tell for sure, but it's better than the image above. I'll soldier on.

I pop by for a look at the pics, but also a read, so I’m pleased you haven’t quit . When I’m on my non-smart phone I can’t really see the photos properly, I also can’t comment on your blog from my phone (same with Dave’s site)
I’ve been surfing the net (bit dark for the real thing down at the beach) and read your views on anonymous commenters over at HP. To be able to comment on this blog I have to log in and because I have a gmail account under a non de plume I use that. I’ll sign off with my real name on comments here from now on as I see it matters to you.
I look at HP every week or so, but I haven’t gone back to commenting there because I feel all I would be doing is arguing with the same people who will never be influenced by anything I say. I’d rather write to the paper where I get a much bigger readership. It’s also feels a bit awkward arguing with someone who lives nearby and that I’m likely to meet in real life sometime, I’d rather we didn’t have too much baggage when we do finally meet face to face.
I’ve been commenting on the ODT online asking the Progas people why they are mostly anonymous. Their answer is that they are expecting to be harassed by fanatical anti oil protesters and are hiding their identity for their own safety. I reckon they projecting their own suspect behaviour/values onto those they disagree with.
In my business I might lose some clients who disagree with my climate change activism, but the issue is so important I’m prepared to take the risk. I’m self employed and am in the privileged position of not having to worry about getting off-side with the boss for speaking out.
This was just going to be a short hello, so kia ora and when you need to replace your camera maybe you could get a waterproof one.

A waterproof camera, Viv, perfik!
Thanks for your suggestion and comments and good on you for writing to the editor under your real name and on the topic you describe. You will have enjoyed John Kerry's comments about oil and gas men. His 'dismiss the deniers outright' statement has been hugely damaging to the head-in-the-sand movement and my letter, published in today's Southland Times (I'll post it here) should shut the local Monckton-lovers up :-) It was accompanied by the opinion piece by Gywnne Dwyer on the hammering Britain is receiving and a cartoon about the ice-melt in the Arctic.
In any case, well-timed letters to the editor are effective, in my view.
The Homepaddock crew are hopeless and haven't shown any sign of improvement, save Willdwan. JC is beyond help.

Homeschooling can is difficult with a baby or daughter is young. You have to provide time in the day for each child. Look for age appropriate activities for both ages. Use every moment to have both of your children engaged while allowing them personal time for bonding or development.
