They're ubiquitous, those maggot-pies! There was a team here - Aparima Pest Busters, who made it their mission to rid Southland of the pied birds. They did very well, initially, but several years later, the birds are beginning to dominate the game again.

Plenty of magpies around our place have given up.
The farmer used a trap to get over 300 magpies out of a neighbouring paddock a couple of summers ago.
