Hone going to Nelson's tangi

Hone Harawira is flying to South Africa to attend the funeral of Nelson Mandela.
I'm pleased that he is.

"Harawira said New Zealand's relationship with Mandela related to the anti-apartheid movement which was not represented by anyone in the official party."

Hone's decided as a result, to be there, outside of the official party, to represent the anti-apartheid movement of New Zealand. There's no doubt those who fought the tours should be represented and Hone's a good choice for that role.
Pro-tour lunk-head righties across the blogosphere are fuming and that's nice to see. I admire Hone and having met and talked with him (we got on very well), I can say that I like him also.

I also once bumped into Hone at an airport and had a short chat. Found him warm and very articulate. Cant help but admire his passion and driving around Northland its not far from the very basic living conditions some live in across the hill to the millionaire mansions so easy to see why he would ruffle feathers. Dont want the serfs getting above themselves.

Hone is intelligent and articulate. Many people like to portray him as a monster, they demonize him, because it is easier to do so than to question their own beliefs.

I agree with your comments, Philip and AC.
Mana, eh!
Gravedodger's response on Homepaddock typifies the thinking (?) of buffoons of that sort, though as you point out, AC, GD's gone troppo lately - gout?

Fascinating that Hone wants to represent the anti apartheid movement in New Zealand when he is the epitome of apartheid and actively promotes apartheid in New Zealand.

*fascinating*

Paranormal, perhaps you don't remember actual details about apartheid. Like blacks not being able to vote. Hone's aspirations for Maori are not apartheid.

corokia, maybe you don't remember all the facts of apartheid?

Apartheid means separate development. It was originally started 'to allow the races to develop in their own way'.

That's pretty much what Hone is advocating. And that's how it starts.

AC's reply to the HP post on funerals being about respect was excellent and Dave is doing good job on organic farming. I do pop over for a read, the comments are very sparse some days. Sometimes I feel like adding one (there is some very low hanging fruit) but don't because I'll just get abuse in reply from that bloke up north or demands to answer questions on some tangent only vaguely linked to my comment.

Get your history right Paranormal, it started with colonisation of SA by white people, who stole the land and resources. If Hone starts advocating removing Pakeha voting rights, you might have a point, but he isn't and you don't.

Ha! That particular post was so fantastically wrong. It seemed a shame to not exercise my vocabulary.
I suspect GD has come to accept some unpalatable truth. It's hard to say what it is, but that's the most likely explanation for his incoherent bile.

Some days, CG? You're too kind. Looking back at last week, with the exception of a couple of comments it looked like HP had turned into a tired and boring tory echo chamber. It's only livened up with Dave taking on Tracey and Mr E over their particular brands of silliness.

That farming post is a classic example of Tracey's 'style'. Tell me how I can farm without artificial fertilisers. You have no qualifications to talk about farming.. Your links are crap. Define growth. Define infrastructure. Define sustainability. I google, therefore I am. Poor Dave.

robertguyton said...

Poor Dave indeed, though he chooses to step in that particular cow-pie.
Tracey has a style peculiar to... herself, with her bent logic bone and whizzoo indignation valve.

Sad Corokia that you are trying to use the old colonisation baton to try and beat the argument. Fact of the matter yes colonisation has happened and we can't turn back the clock. We now have to deal with it today. Separatism, as advocated by Hone and the apartheid regime in SA is not the answer. You really should learn a bit more of the background of how apartheid developed in SA. It would wake you up to what Hone and his ilk are demanding.

Oh and you assume too much. If as you suggest Hone was somehow able to magically able to pull up the welcome mat and send Pakeha home, I'll be staying in NZ.

Maori, are you, Paranormal?
Tangata whenua?
Any European in your make-up?
Or African, Asian, South American?
Just wondering.

Yes indeed RG - like all New Zealanders, including the 'pure' John Hatfield (look up the background there Corokia), I am a mongrel. You and Corokia have assumed incorrectly, and quite condescendingly at times, my background.

No,wrong again Paranormal, I've never made any assumptions about you, other than that you have access to a computer and for some reason have a photo of firearms linked to your name.
Colonisation is the reason white people were in SA, they got rich on the mineral wealth and oppressed the blacks. That is history and shouldn't be ignored.

Para - I never for a moment assumed you weren't a mongrel.
