They were awesome, they were brave and they did a great job drawing media attention to the issue. That they stayed for days inside the 500m zone and were not arrested for breaking the anti-protesting law is interesting. I wonder how that has gone down with the pro oil drilling lobby, Bridges and his mates.

They were. Jeanette has no fear of being arrested. I suspect that's known by the authorities.

How times have changed. In 1972 our PM sent the navy to Mururoa to protest nowadays we have an PM threatening to arrest those who protest. Big Norm was driven be ideals I suppose where now we have someone bereft of ideas scrambling to find something to tax. Or sell!

Or schmooze.

Jeanette being arrested will be big news when it happens, I'm guessing the Nats are putting off that day. Seeing a gentle, intelligent grandmother and ex political leader, being taken away by the police is not the image of climate change activists the fossil fuel industry will want people to see. They want us to be seen as different and extreme, it suits their propaganda better.

I think you are right. They are then, in a tricky position; if Anadarko begin to drill with the yacht in the zone, they'll have broken the terms of their consent. If the NZ Navy swoop in and arrest the yachts-people, Jeanette will make the news.
Interesting times.

And yes, they have left the area, heading back to dry land to go to court.
