Got it!

The bamboo in the public gardens in Invercargill. It's a beautiful bamboo and thanks to the Park Manager, we've got several off-shoots to plant here. We've learned also, that you can take cuttings; each with two nodes, and plant them, at an angle of 20 degrees, and have them successfully strike. So we are and have. This particular bamboo is silica-high and glassy to the touch. It's clumps are attractive and non-invasive.
The giant dahlia below has had the same 2-node segment treatment and is already sprouting vigorously. Soon, this place will be a jungle:-)

good to know :) There's a heap of bamboo around this area, and we would love some.....but its either hard to find in the shops or if you do incredibly expensive..... will have to do some gathering!

Fill the top with water, Hootnz, and they'll start to shoot really fast!
