The news that there is to be a
referendum on asset sales is good news indeed. New Zealanders want
and deserve a chance to have their say on whether John Key should
sell our energy assets and this referendum gives us all that chance.
Being able to comment on important issues gives ordinary people an
oppportunity to have their views heard and it's not just Central
Government that should be willing to hear the views of those they
serve, local government too should provide opportunities to hear what
people think of them. I'm in the process of arranging an appraisal of
the chairman of Environment Southland by the councillors in the same
spirit of the referendum. I've invited each councillor, chair
included, to contribute their thoughts on how our chairman performed
over the past three years and hope it will provide valuable feedback
for all of us. It's something I proposed early in my time on
Environment Southland and am keen to make it happen before the term
finishes. Like the referendum on asset sales, a performance appraisal
for our leaders lets in the light and reveals the true state of
things.

So when they get a seat at the government table we can expect them (the Greens) to honour the results of the last referendum
Is anyone demanding that Key honours this referendum?
We all know he won't (not an honorable man you see)e
Referendums are valuable in that they reveal the broad feelings of the people. What the politicians do with that information is another thing altogether.
Key will lose a great deal if he dismisses the voice of the people. He will and he will.
I am fairly sure he said that winning a majority at the last election trumps a referendum
So what is the lefts reason for not honouring the last referendum "not honourable"
PS I voted against child beating and am not calling for for any referendum to be honoured, but that is not the position the Left are calling for is it
Just becuase He says something, doesn't make it true. He says a lot of things that seem good at first hearing but are in fact hollow, Ray.
The Left are not 'calling for the referendum to be honoured', they are calling for it to be held. It must be . It will be. The politicians can do what they will with the results.
