Key declares war with North Korea

It's now well beyond a joke.

There is nothing amusing about wars, even hypothetical ones.

Nor with warmongers, nor with idiots who inflame already inflamed situations.

Nor with those who hang around international bullies, eager to support their every whim...

Indeed Dave. So much for reds under the bed; the photos I saw showed the PM shaking hands with them. Will wonders never cease?

Yet again KDS is alive and well here. But hey, rather than me saying it, here's Scott's comments: http://www.imperatorfish.com/2013/04/in-which-john-key-declares-endless-war.html

Uh-huh.
Scott's post asks "why are we focusing on the PM being a mumblef*ck when he's also busy leading a government that is ruining the economy", whereas
Robert's post points out "yet again the PM has shown he is a mumblef*ck"
Yours is hardly a strong endorsement of the PM. Apart from the "don't be mean" message, do you have a point? Do you think Robert got it wrong and we should all go "hooray for John, if only Barack had his common sense and way with words the world would be a much better place"?

AC - Key opens his mouth and states the obvious, nothing gung ho, and those with KDS are shouting from the roof tops that he's a warmonger?

As an aside he's far better than the last PM at this international stuff. remember how we got embroiled in Afghanistan anyone?

In the sense that there are a range of scenarios under which NZ would and should commit military forces to a war in Korea, were one to be precipitated, it was a statement of the obvious. With things that are obvious, I have often wondered whether it is even necessary to state them, given that they are obvious. However, in this case there are also scenarios under which it would be unwise to commit military forces to a war in the Korean peninsula. On this basis I think Mr Key was not merely stating the obvious.
The balance between to two is that right no the whole idea of a war in Korea is a hypothetical situation. If some form of military conflict were to arise, NZ would have to consider the circumstances and make decisions on how it might contribute to a solution. Or putting it another way "..it's actually a dynamic situation".
It's my opinion that Mr Key is not a war-monger, but he might be if he could work out how to make money out of it. And I read Robert's post as being about how poorly the sentiments were expressed, rather than commentary on the nature of the sentiments. But that's just my interpretation, perhaps Robert could confirm.
I honestly can't remember how we became involved in Afghanistan, perhaps you can enlighten me.

RE Afghanistan. Clarkula made disparaging public remarks about George W winning the election and how things would be far better if the Democrats had won. In a face saving move she committed the SAS to the US latest venture - rooting the taliban out of Afghanistan.

She broke the First Rule of this international stuff - never comment on the internal politics of your friends & allies.
