Harvest Festival
Fancy yourself King or Queen of the Harvest? Are you a dab hand at preserving plums? Perhaps you grow the biggest pumpkins in Southland? Whatever your skill, be it in the kitchen or the garden, the Heritage Harvest festival at Riverton is an opportunity for you to see how you rate compared with the other Southlanders who home-grow their vegetables, make their own jam and pickles, keep bees, weave baskets and 101 other harvest activities. The trophy pictured will be awarded to the Champion of the Harvest, decided at the Harvest Pot-luck Feast on the Saturday night following a fun-but-challenging competition, but if you are of a less competitive nature, you might like instead to go to the festival just to look at the efforts of others, and perhaps take one of the many harvest workshops on offer. The festival will be held on the 23 & 24 March at the Aparima College Hall at Riverton.
