פֶּסַח

Most most unusual title to date! I hope it reproduces true on the computers of my loyal readers (despite the dearth of comments, my 'stats' show that I have readers :-). It's  Hebrew for "Passover" or "Pesach" and we had one here last night. Our Jewish visitor, Molly, and her friends prepared and served a Passover meal, complete with ceremony and explanation and it was most interesting and enjoyable. Here's what our evening consisted of:
  • Eating matzah.
  • Eating bitter herbs—to commemorate the bitter slavery endured by the Israelites.
  • Drinking four cups of wine to celebrate the  newfound freedom of the Jews
  • The recitation of the Haggadah, a liturgy that describes in detail the story of the Exodus from Egypt. The Haggadah is the fulfillment of the biblical obligation to recount to our children the story of the Exodus on the night of Passover, though not having a copy, our Jewish friend told the story as best she could, from memory.
It was a very good night, with lots of talk and laughter.
