State of the Climate Report

Quick lads! Heads in the sand!

"Severe droughts, floods and heat waves rocked the world last year as greenhouse gas levels climbed, boosting the odds of some extreme weather events, international scientists said overnight."

The State of the Climate report will have paranormal, Towack, Sally, Hubber and others diving for the sandpit, beach or whatever body of sand they are closest to, in order to drown out the news of this report on recent adverse weather events across the globe. If you see anybody adopting the HITS position, plant your boot on their bum and force them to get a breath of fresh-but-warming air, and take a look around themselves. It's for their own good.

Thanks, Robert, just shared it with Keeping Stock's denier/skeptic mates.

Thanks, Charlie, good spotting. I've put that article up as a post.
bsprout - it's nice that you share the love but I've a strongly held and well tested belief that your time at Keeping Stock is wasted time. You'll not influence the calcified thinking there, nor will you win admirers. Get started on sowing your tomato and pumpkin seeds instead and make some real gains :-)

p.s. bsprout - Homepaddock is more fertile ground.

I dont have a problem with global warming - I live by the beach so bring on the heat.
One question though, if America is currently in the grips of your freak weather, caused by golbal warming, why have they not yet broken their highest temp recordings which were back in the 1930's. Or does that not count?

My mother in law is staying and had a NZ Gardner mag, one with a pic of you holding an apple bigger than your head, she asked me if apples that size are really grown in Riverton...... lucky my wife got her brains from her father ah. I bet my mother in law believes in global warming too....

The 1930's 'highest temp', Towack, was that not 'one out of the box', an anomaly? If you believe it was, then there's no reason to think that it should have been beaten by the gradually rising temperatures brought about by climate change. It will be in time though, sadly.
Your mother-in-law is a very perceptive woman and you should be very grateful to have her advising you - she's absolutely correct, that apple, shown life size and without any photoshopping at all, is genuine, I guarantee it. Even the editor of the magazine couldn't believe it was untouched and wrote that I'd photoshopped the apple, but no, it's in its raw, unadulterated form. You Doubting Thomases make me laugh, both in your inability to see what's in front of you (climate change) and to accept the wisdom of your elders (mother-in-laws especially).

Yawn again. More self promotion for those in the grip of evil big government money (isn't that how you'd describe a similar anti AGW article?).

But really RG, instead of trying to float a sinking boat that is gorebull warmening, wouldn't it be better we invested more in science that investigates the real issues? Such as why did we have two La Nina's? It was died in the wool types like you that delayed us investigating the la Nina/El Nino cycle by 70 years. back in the 90's we were only noticing la Nina events 6 months after they'd occured. We've come a long way since then but there is so much yet to discover. That btw is why your absolute certainty in 'the science is settled' is laughable.

Long term weather predition based on tropical sea temperature was originally put up as a paper to an Aussie university in 1910, and the 'majority of cliamte scientests' of that time laughed it out of the university. Thats what you are doing now to anyone that dares to question your 'mainstream' beliefs.

It's clear, paranormal, that the scientists who released this particular report are self-promoting and are broadcasting their findings for reasons other than their being scientists, working in this field. You'll no doubt provide a link to any evidence for this? One little link? A skerrick of credible evidence? Para? Won't you?
Or are you blowing?

Towack said...

So if the 30's was one out of the box as you say, then what about the Shotover River freezing last week, is that proof of your fluctuating temps or is it also one out of the box , if so, then why did it freeze in 1994 when I was driving jet boats on it?
Prob just a fluke ah.

robertguyton said...

None of it is proof of anything, Towack, but looking outside of you're wee world, you'll see and hear that those who study trends in climate are saying that the likelihood that man-made climate change is causing extreme events is now significant and should be regarded, for the sake of human safety, as something to be attended to, pronto.
Your frozen river trumps nothing. Hide behind these singular events if you will, but it makes you seem, to me anyway, irresponsible.

So you believe all is well in the world of science then. IPCC and Climategate fiascos, Jones, Mann hockey sticks et al don't start you thinking that maybe the funding of certain science projects over others are politically motivated? The emails leaked from East Anglia show there is a concerted campaign to do just that. Where is your critical thinking RG?

I merely gave an example. If you post an email address I can forward you a scanned copy of the peer reviewed paper that
1) highlighted the failure of the university to recognise the potential of the 1910 thesis, and
2) detailed the ability to recognise a la Nina event in the 90's
when I return home in two weeks.

while summer temps in the american continent have been indeed warm and very dry, winter temps have been some of the coldest in recorded history,
the moderation in global temps since about 07 . are an indication of a slowing warming trend or possibly the start of a cooling trend,
time will tell,,
it is interesting of course if temp was to rise it would take a considerable time to get to the temperatures in the medievil warm period .
to consider temperature variation and cycles as anything other than usual in earths history, is misguided .
there is opinion that we are approaching a" Mauder minimum" type period as current solar cycles are very weak. If this was to coincide with" Melcanovich " cycles which sees earth periodically at a more distant orbit around the sun we would certainly enter a very cool phase ,
It is fact that earth has a climate history that sees more cool extended glaciated periods , than warm periods ,
so sorry, i cant join you in the mass hysteria and misinformation currently being peddled ,,
it will no doubt interest you that DR James Hanson, the global warming guru was predicting global cooling about 40 years ago and is regarded with some distrust when it comes to accuracy of data.
this of course should come as no surprise when one also considers the " hide the decline " debarcle that professor Mann of the " hockey stick" fame was involved in, as global temps did not continue the upward trend as predicted.
It is of course known and verified by ice core samples that hitorically co2 follows temp increase rather than preceeding it ,

Well, bs buster, if you are unable to accept that the industries on mankind are contributing significantly to the greenhouse gas load and that the effect of increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is the greenhouse effect (warming), then there is little need to take any of your justifications or opinions into account, is there? Without a basic grasp of science, your opinion has to be considered as something other than sound.

BS buster said...

desperate to avoid the facts i see . A typical green response, repeat a lie enough times and someone will believe you,

why have you avoided comment the fact that prof manns graph is discredited ,
you will no doubt become personal now which i see is your usual tactic

robertguyton said...

Personal, shmersonal, BS buster. Your 'graph' claim is old hat and boring. I've read it and I've read plenty that shows it faulty. I like to use my commonsense and the opinions of more scientifically minded commentators to form my opinions. That way I don't get bogged-down, as you have, by this graph or that wild-eyed claim.

BS buster said...

so Robert you disagree with fritz vahrenholt , who after reviewing the IPCC reports on climate change found them to be "unscientific" and flawed .
and changed his opinion on global warming ,
a brave man..but an honest one .

climate denier ..!! flaws in the peer review process of the IPCC reports have been known for some time and have been described in the past as " an abuse of the peer review process"
The non governmental international panel on climate change initiated by Dr Fred Singer an atmospheric physicist was set up to provide independant critique of IPCC climate reports.
the first full report was published in2009 the forward being written by Dr F Seitz, regarded at that time as one of the worlds most renouned scientists also listed 35 contributors from 14 countries , and also supported by Dr craig Idso chairman of the centre for the study of co2 and global climate change .
this 880 page report ,, the most comprehensive independant critique of IPCC contained in its appendix the names of 31 478 american scientists who declared .
" THERE IS NO CONVINCING SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE THANT HUMAN RELEASED CO2 OR OTHER MAN MADE GREEN HOUSE GASES HAVE OR WILL PRODUCE IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE CATASTROPHIC HEATING OF THE EARTH ATMOSPHERE",
so while you might like to dismiss Fritz Vahrenholt.. as just " one man" he is indeed in good company.
the NIPCC { non governmental independant panel on climate change} have a homepage and updates
