" Bollo says:
“Proposition 9: We must reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to avoid global climate change.
Human induced global climate change is a serious threat to the continued ability of the planet to support humanity and current ecosystems. The damage caused by climate change will be so large that GHG emissions must be reduced now.
BUT
Reducing GHG emissions would be costly. The decision to bear those costs should be made with reference to the expected benefits reduced GHG emissions would yield. Reducing GHG emissions will not eliminate the risk of climate change.”
So what part’s the myth?
I read that as saying global warming is real and probably man made, but we shouldn’t reduce GHGs because that would be “costly”.
Peak oil is not about the amount of oil. It means that we have extracted the ‘easy’ oil and by easy we mean the energy positive oil. Any oil extracted after that point becomes energy negative. i.e. we use more energy to extract it than we actually get from it. The reason people will continue down this avenue if purely for financial reasons as we in the west cling to our unsustainable life styles.
We really need open and HONEST debate on these issues and in my opinion, to peddle a line that fails to fully inform is disengenous and unforgivable, given the magnitude of the issues we face.
