Children's books

I bought some kid's books at a second-hand shop today - lots of books and many of them treasures - it was an unusually rich seam of children's literature, probably some school 'rationalizing' their library. Good news for me, as I'm collecting for the day when I'll be reading to my grandchildren and any other tot that happens by. Amongst today's trove was a fabulous copy of Tom Thumb, the illustrations of which were photographs of cloth puppets representing the characters. Here's Tom in the horse's ear.
As well, there's the inside-front-page illustration from, 'Frog Went A'Courtin', the very one I read from as a beginning teacher back in the day. I found also, a favourite poem - 'Roger was a razor-fish'
'Mongst others.

It amazes me how such poorly written drivel ends up becoming the best selling paperback of all time.

It also amazes me how there are blatant double standards regarding certain material and how it is 'allowed' to be discussed depending on which gender the target audience is.
