" This weekend is the National Party conference in Auckland. In the last five years conference has become dead boring, as the parliamentary wing has shut down any real discussion, so it is just ministers lecturing the conference from the stage.
This makes it about as much fun as a day and a half long school assembly, and with the board being unwilling or unable to stand up to the parliamentary wing this years conference is going to be so boring delegates would be well advised to bring a smart phone so they can surf while being lectured, or take an awful lot of precautionary recreational drugs."
Oh, how I yearn to be there!

Drugs are bad! stay in school!
Indeed Rob...statements like that can easily be misconstrued, despite you many a time declaring on this blog your clean-living/drug shunning ways.
Only National Party supporters can joke about mind-altering substances.
Get with the programme.
The real issue is that all parliamentry parties conferences have become media show pieces. Can you imagine any dissent at a Liarbour Party conferenc led by Uncle Hulun or a Winston First Graypower hoolie?
If there is any dissent it will come in the closed sessions where members are able to vent without ending up on the evening news.
Paranormal
The take-drugs advice was for delegates only, gentle readers (oh, how you fret and worry!)
Paranormal - you must have a demeaning name for the National Party as well - you're a contrarian but surely not a one-eyed parochialist as well! Do share your funny Nat name with us.
