Perhaps the world's gruntiest...

...strainer post. The photo doesn't show just how massive this post is. If ordinary strainers were seals, this is a sea elephant. I shot it on my way home from Mataura, during one of my 'saddle-breaks'.

I have one of these at home, Rg. It is in an awkward place, and I would like to remove it.
So far it has resisted all efforts from tractor and chainsaw, being I now believe an old gum tree cut in situ to make a strainer post.
I have succumbed to its will and planted about it, and each time I pass it I sigh and grin!!
Such is 'peace' in the garden!

I wondered if it might have grown there, Fred. Termites might be the only option for you, I suspect.
I had a macrocarpa stump set right in front of my house that I puzzled over removing, til a German 'woofer' suggested 'knowledgeably' that he build a frame around it and fill it with compost, thus beginning the rapid process of rotting it out. He built it, despite my reservations. The German has long gone but the stump endures.
