On Friday morning I was rung by a young girl I've never met who most politely asked if I would come to her school and talk to her class about growing a vegetable garden. I'm heading off to Wyndam Primary School tomorrow morning armed only with what I know about gardening and teaching and accompanied by Rosario, our Chilean guest, who will teach me some Castellano Spanish, mixed with a little Quecha, on the way.
We are going to start the day with a glass of mate - she has a bombilla!
Ay ay ay!

This is not meant as criticism of you at all, but really this school should be inviting help from the grandparents of the community. Such a wasted resource. Localise!
They are too, Jonesy. They've a list of garndparents they're inviting to be part of the schools 'green revolution' - i'd save a lot of travel too. For all that, I loved the visit (I'm back home now) and was able to talk about/promote our 'Green Fingers Garden Club' to the teachers and children in such a way that I'm sure they'll be a lot signed up to grow a garden at home as well. I had a look at their orchard too, a will call in sometime next year to prune the trees if I'm passing.
I stopped off to photograph a fabulous tunnel house at Edendale that was filled with fruit trees and had been managed by guines-pigs. I'll post on it shortly.
Jonesy - that 'wasted grandparents' thing put me in mind of Don Brash :-)
I can't imagine D.Brash having anything useful, let alone practical to pass on to anyone.
Corned beef recipe?
