Gushing blood

There are others who think as I do!
While the disaster that has unfolded in Queensland and is spreading elsewhere across the old continental island is awful on many levels, it's the loss of topsoil that I think will be the greater catastrophe.
Sydney Morning Herald columnist Paul Sheehan has plenty to say about soil.

"Australia reminds me of an injured person, gushing blood. Others gather around, concerned, yet nobody mentions the gushing blood, or appears to even notice.

Last night there was a telethon in support of people who have suffered from the floods in Queensland and there has been much discussion of the costs to the economy, the cost of recovery, the cost of lost coal exports. But there has been little discussion of the more fundamental issue. The rivers have been running brown. A lot of the lifeblood of this country has been gushing away in liquid mountains we don't even see."

It's an article worth reading in its entirety.

Too busy opening my gifts :-) Planning to spend some time on the uni today, with my daughter holding my hand. Coffee at the new cafe in the old post office.
I'll seek some images out (unless you find them first)

Happy birthday Robert, may your day be filled with dirt, and bugs, and the sweet smell of the NZ bush in summer!

Thanks Shunda - there's dirt aplenty outside for me to revel in and it's not being washed into the sea at all. As to the bugs, we are innundated (see what I did there :-) with ladybirds right now - legions of them, all seeking aphid. Fly my pretties!

Thank you so much uddabarunda!
(It's terribly tempting to play with your name. I'm just going to assume you saw both possibilities :-)
You'd have enjoyed the beach birthday party. As soon as we'd finished our pick-a-nick we three lads :-) started our stone throwing and didn't stop for an hour. Some spectacular throws were recorded but modesty prevents me from describing those in detail.
Heavenly it was!

Shunda has already played with the name on his blog. He is just RUDE!!!!
I am pleased that you had a great time at the beach. I am however very interested in the stone throwing records......

For the record ... I hit the frisbee first and my next stone went straight through the same hole!
True. Trite but true!
My sons then proceeded to clean up the remains (better eye-sight you see.)
