Very nice project! What tree are you envisaging using for this? Willow is fast growing, flexible, but has load issues. Hazel would probably work nicely, with tasty treats available at a later stage!

I have both growing here, Morgan - sweet chestnut too! I'm not decided yet and am still busy with creating wreaths from vines (supplejack, grape, muehlenbeckia and hop) and it's from those experiments with twisting and plaiting 'lianas' that I came to find this image. It's evocative, isn't it!

Oh, and the ladder! I've been making those as well. My best is 'Y' shaped (inverted) and has it's rungs bound-on. My chickens climb it to get to their perches. I'll try to post photos tomorrow, if possible and in case anyone's interested.

Lucky they have a ladder to get to their perches, otherwise they might evolve some other method of getting to them. Like wings. Or an extra set of claws.

Ha!
Leathery wings that clap as they are beaten!
